Boo’s Philly Cheesesteaks is a Korean-American family owned restaurant located on Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown. The owners are a couple who moved to New Jersey from Seoul, South Korea in 1979. The husband’s first job was at a Cheesesteak joint in Germantown, New Jersey. After learning the trade and perfecting the craft, the family opened and operated their own cheesesteak joint in Collingswood, New Jersey. 30 years later, the family’s son and daughter wanted to open up a cheesesteak joint in LA to fill a void of authentic philly cheesesteaks and hoagies they noticed in the area. Since then, Boo’s has been all about delivering authenticity to customers. Boo’s founding is a powerful story of an immigrant family living out the “American Dream”. As their website notes, Boo’s story is about how the family “started from the bottom and made it here”.
