Most UCLA students and outsiders may be unaware that UCLA is home to a 7.5 acre botanical garden. Their goal is to conserve plants from various ecosystems and provide knowledge about them to the general public. Furthermore, the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden inspires others to learn about the environmental and cultural significance of plants through a tranquil and serene environment that is open to everyone.

Due to the global pandemic, the botanical garden is closed; however, that has not stopped the administration from sharing their passion for plants. As of now, they are hosting virtual events through Zoom where they organize panels and speakers in order to educate the public on various topics surrounding botany. Lastly, their website is very helpful, since it offers descriptions of their collections and how you can become involved with the UCLA botany community.

In general, the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden provides a serene and tranquil space that will hopefully be open soon for the public to enjoy. A mini field trip with your friends is bound to bring excitement and good vibes. For now, we can enjoy what the garden has to offer from a distance.
