Saffron and Rose, an ice cream shop located just south of Wilshire Boulevard, has become a staple to the Westwood and greater Los Angeles community. This family-owned joint was founded over 75 years ago by Ali Kashani-Rafye, an Iranian who had become a master at making traditional Persian ice cream in Tehran. He had just recently immigrated to the United States when he decided to put his talent to use and opened up the now booming small business. Although Saffron and Rose also carries typical American flavors, they are most well-known for their uniquely flavored and traditionally textured Persian ice cream. Although Kashani-Rafye passed away in 2010, his legacy is carried on by his remaining family members. Nowadays, the shop has become an iconic feature to the Tehrangeles neighborhood and continues to bring not only the Iranian community together, but Angelenos as well over their shared love of good ice cream.
