On our last DCT outing in Little Tokyo I was lucky enough to explore the hub of delicious food! I peeked into multiple restaurants, bakeries, and shops, all of which smelled wonderful and looked heavenly, but was only able to eat so much. I'd love to share my experience eating in Little Tokyo in hopes of encouraging you to explore the community and all it has to offer!
1) I first decided to grab a snack at a bakery shop called Fugetsu-Do. Having done a little research before arriving, I discovered this shop had been family-owned and operated since 1903! It's such a special gem with so much history, so I had to check it out! They are known for their mochi and manju, so I decided to try out a few different flavors of the tasty treat considering how affordable they are.
2) After my snack I figured I needed to get some ramen for lunch. I am vegetarian so most places had pretty limited menus for someone like me. I was able to find Rakken Ramen, where their broth is 100% plant-based! They had a ton of options for my fellow vegetarians/vegans - I would go back in a heartbeat!!
3) If you're ever looking for dessert in Little Tokyo, be sure to stop by Yamazaki Bakery. They have everything from cake, steamed buns, ice cream, breads, etc. I had to get one last treat despite how full I was - was totally worth it.
The food scene in Little Tokyo is totally worth checking out if you ever find yourself there! There are tons of affordable options for students on a budget too.
